Project Description Country: USA Location: San Diego Total Budget: $500 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: General Summary: School supplies for a Syrian refugee family in San Diego Our club has sponsored and mentored a Syrian refugee family, the Alshahhouds, for the past 1.5 years. The children are doing very well in school. However, the family is on government assistance that does not allow enough for school supplies. 5 of the children will be going back to school in August and will need help in purchasing basic items such as backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils, paper, books, school uniforms, math and art supplies. This grant will allow our Rotary club to help purchase those needed items. As school will be starting late August, this grant will be used promptly after approved. Our club plans a day of shopping with our kids to assure the appropriate purchase of needed supplies.
