Malayika Rescue Missions (Malayika) is a 501[c]3 founded in 2013 by Uganda-born Rotarian, Jolly Kahunde,a member of Mid-Cities Pacesetters Rotary Club (MCP),and is focused on educating underprivileged children in Uganda. Malayika pays tuition, providing school supplies, uniforms, transportation for 41 students including 34 elementary and 7 high school students at two schools in Mukono and Fort Portal, Uganda. Malayika has a long waiting list of students who cannot pay tuition. Many of these children are HIV positive and require medication and developmental initiatives. The average annual tuition is $293 per student and this grant would allow up to 11 students to enroll or permit any student (up to 11 students) currently enrolled to continue in school if other funding becomes unavailable. Three MCP Rotary members (Bill Bracken, Dawn Davis and Jolly Kahunde) serve on the Malayika Board and as individual financial contributors, providing money and shoes for students to combat parasites with logistical help from a third Rotary member(Sharon Cox). Our MCP sponsored Interact Club, with two additional MCP Rotarians (Jennifer Muiehead and Michelle Johnson) as mentors also contributes to Malayika by sponsoring one child's annual tuition. Two other Rotarians have been involved in Malayika related fund raising activities this year (Dan Davis and Michael Draper) .
