Alta Loma School is a School-Wide Title One School, with 69% of students receiving free or reduced-cost lunches. Less than half of its students have computers at home.
The school computer lab is aging, has many nonfunctional stations, and is constantly booked.
The school principal has been gradually installing 2-3 computer work stations in each classroom, beginning with Kindergarten and is now working on the sixth grade for the 2013-14 school year.
The project funds will be used to acquire five computer workstations allowing students to do research, school lessons, to learn life skills, and to use specialized software for individualized learning and for building a portfolio of computer experiences.
Rotarians will have an opportunity, after the workstations are installed, to see a demonstration of them in use. A news release will also be issued to the local news media, hopefully resulting in a photo opportunity. Small stickers/decals will be placed on the workstations stating that they were provided by Peoria North Rotary Club.
This project will be complete prior to Jan 31, 2014.
