Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Staten Island

Total Budget: $3,234

Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Maternal and child health, Economic and community development

Activity Type: Food/Agriculture: General

Summary: The year-round food depravation problem continues to grow on Staten Island. There are 40+ food pantries struggling to meet the needs of our community. SSR will provide grocery supplies to six of the neediest pantries and/or after-school centers

Food is basic; food is fundamental...food deprivation is a huge, growing and on-going issue. The sad truth is that there will never be enough food to meet the demand.

South Shore Rotary will personally present letters of award to six of the neediest food pantries on Staten Island and meet with their administrators to discuss specific needs/wants. Then South Shore Rotary will order the discussed supplies at ShopRite. The nutritional food choices and paper products (think toilet paper) not provided by food stamps will be delivered to the pantries. Receipts will be issued to and held by South Shore Rotary. This personal interface/discussion/shopping/delivery will allow financial control and maximize benefits.
