E=Club Rotarian Silvanus Malaho is a missionary in Shikunga, Kenya which is a village very near Kakamega where we completed a Vocational Training Team humanitarian global grant with the Rotary Club of Kakamega. Pastor Malaho has been very instrumental in caring for children in the Shikunga village including an orphanage. Bedding (mattresses and blankets) in this children's home is torn and in desperate need of replacement.
During the global grant project in Kenya our VTT team along with Rotarians Kim Baxter, Catherin Carithers, Anita Lorenzen, Gilbert Hinga, and UNK Rotaractor President Keegan Francl visited Shikunga and experienced the humanitarian need especially for the children. Keegan met with the Kakamega Rotaract Club while there and is in progress of developing future service projects with their Rotaract Club. The UNK Rotaract Club is planning a return trip to Kenya in late spring/early summer to visit the village and will provide photos and/or other documentation to confirm that fund expenditures of the grant were made in accordance with the grant process,
Kearney Dawn's Satellite Eclub Beyond Borders & UNK Rotaract Club are partners that will oversee the transfer of funds and oversee the purchase/delivery of bedding to the Ambassadors of Love Children's Home and School through engagement with Rotary District 9212 and the Village of Shikunga.
