Partnering with Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) and other hunger fighting non profits, The Phoenix Rotary Club in its centennial years proposes to organize the states 100 plus rotary clubs in the three Districts (5490, 5510 and 5500) to fund and pack over a million meals for starving children to be delivered to 70 impoverished countries around the globe. Additionally it is in furtherance of our Rotary Club's mission from our Visioning Process to collaborate with other service organizations to leverage our effectiveness as Arizona Rotariansin our Centennial year (2013-2014). FMSC is a nonprofit hunger relief organization founded in 1987 and based in MN. The meal formula (Manna Pack Rice) was created by food scientists in MN and is designed to meet the daily needs of children suffering from servere malnourishment. Project funds will be used to purchase the necessary ingredients for the Manna Packs.
Each meal costs only 22 cents to produce. For a million meals the project will need to generate approximately $220,000. Each 2 hour packing session packing session produces more than 11,300 meals. This project funding will help to get the initial packing session funded in order to "prime the pump" so to speak for the statewide centennial campaign
Rotary volunteers including family members and friends will package 100% of the project food that will count toward our million meals goal.
Working with a defined and effective NGO distribution system, an incredible 99.6% of the meals arrived safely at their destination and to the intended starving children.
