Project Description

Country: South Africa

Location: Grahamstown

Total Budget: $7,689

Area of Focus: Water and sanitation

Activity Type: Water: Supply/Access

Summary: Drinking water and water for Nombulelo HS - In a severe drought area -provide up to 5000 liters of water storage

This is an emergency project to provide water for Nombulelo HS, Grahamstown South Africa. The region is in a severe drought resulting in the local community possibly losing its water supply by mid April 2019 (update: city water officially gone Mar 2019). The project is to quickly provision 40,000 liters or more of water storage for the high school. The water will be supplied by tank trucks operated by another charity and social service operation. The local Grahamstown Rotary Club will execute the procurement and construction of the water storage system.

This project is an additional phase following the contribution of $2,500 from the Rotary Club of Jackson Hole to procure and distribute point of delivery filters. Over 1000 students and orphans now have access to potable water that was not previously available.

Funds are being raised from individuals, businesses, and Rotary clubs. DDF will be solicited in coordination with the D5440 Grant managers. The District 5440 Foundation (not associated with TRF) has contributed $2,000.
