Kaitlyn Emerson, a rising junior in Spanish education and Religious Studies at the Univ. of Wyoming (UW), has an internship for English language instruction to middle and secondary students in a rural parish of the province Quito that has been a mining community. Recently, the mines have been closed and a local professor is working to diversify the community's skills through English education. Classes will be offered to the community for students who cannot afford private education. Kaitlyn will work with this professor over the course of seven weeks during summer 2019 to provide students free, adequate language instruction. The specific goal is to help these students, with no English background, to attain an A2 level of English in the course of seven weeks. This scholarship will help fund program fees, which include the cost of living with a host family, UW study abroad fee, insurance and other basic living expenses while in Ecuador.
