The shelter house at the Alma City Park is used by a variety of public organizations and families for events during the year. The shelter house is approximately 80 years old and the current electrical system is not adequate for modern appliances that are used at gatherings held there. When the current system is in use appliances frequently overload the current system causing the circuit breakers to switch off inconveniencing whoever is using the facility. This is a facility that the City of Alma makes available for public use.
The proposed project will use Rotary District grant money to add 5 or 6 new circuit breakers, two additional circuits, upgrade the wiring to handle larger electrical loads for modern appliances and make the electrical system safer and more usable for the public. This project would also involve installing a ceiling fan, an 8' fluorescent light fixture and 5 120V drop cords. The project should be completed within 30 days of the funds being available.
A local Electrician, Jeff's Electric from Holdrege has submitted a bid of $900 to do this work which is very reasonable for the amount of improvements being done. The Rotary Club of Alma will pay for that portion of the project not covered by the District Grant.
Several members of the Rotary Club of Alma will assist the electrician with the installation of the new light fixture, ceiling fan and drop cords as well as with some minor labor with the wiring such as cutting conduit. Although some club members will provide assistance it must be understood that this is a public building that must meet all of the requirements of the electrical codes for the State of Nebraska so volunteers can not do any work not allowed by state law.
