Project Description Country: USA Location: Anchorage, AK Total Budget: $3,000 Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Food/Agriculture: General Summary: Weekend Food Program for eight Title I elementary schools in Anchorage, AK The Weekend Food Program at The Children's Lunchbox distributes over 3,100 bags of food each Friday during the school year to students at eight elementary schools in Anchorage. The program was a direct result of local educators requesting help for students who had little to eat at home every weekend and would come to school on Monday morning hungry and unable to focus. Our goal of $3,000 would sponsor a classroom for the entire 2019-20 school year. Club members will have the opportunity to volunteer at TCL and assist in putting the bags together and distributing to students in need.
