The Rotary Club of O'Neill is partnering with the O'Neill Family, Career, Community, Leaders of America (FCCLA) to help fund the Backpack Program. The Backpack Program is a program designed to help meet the needs of hungry children in the O'Neill School District. Children who meet the eligibility requirements are sent home a backpack filled with nutritional food that will get them through the weekend. Students who are hungry, often perform poorly in school.
The O'Neill School District has a 50.63% of the student body at O'Neill Elementary receives free or reduced breakfasts and lunches. This is approximately 200 students. By partnering with the FCCLA organization, the Rotary Club of O'Neill will be able to help reduce childhood hunger in the community of O'Neill.
The program will be launched in August 2013 and the funds will be used to help purchase the backpacks and the food for the program.
