Located at 675 Swiftwater Park Road in the city of Soldotna behind Fred Meyer's, Swiftwater Park is a fee-based, public-use park and campground designed with the outdoors in mind. Swiftwater Campground is for the most part a tent or small RV campground. Campsites come complete with picnic tables and fire pits.
The campground and boat launch were completed in 1980's with bank restoration and improved river access added in the later 1990's. In 2002, campsites were added. The campsites of Swiftwater Park wind through the forest that borders the banks of the Kenai River. With the park's seclusion from the busy summer activity in Soldotna, it could almost be its own little village.
The recently added campsites, have very little physical privacy separation between each other. To provide more privacy, It's intended to plant 700 seedlings comprised of a combination of white spruce and Colorado spruce between these sites and around common areas. Planting would occur in August 2019. Families of the general public, rotary volunteers and the City of Soldotna will join forces to plant the seedlings.
In addition to privacy, the trees will provide an environmental, educational and habitat. .
• Environmental Benefits of Planting Trees. Trees are like the lungs of the planet. They breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen.
• provide habitat for birds and other wildlife.
• Families will learn how to plant trees, see them grow and learn about the benefits of the trees.
It's intended to purchase the trees through the Cook Inlet Chapter of the American Society of Foresters.
The seedlings are $40/bundle of 20
700 seedling - 35 bundles @ $40 = $1400
