Project Description Country: Haiti Location: Les Cayes Total Budget: $6,000 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: General Summary: Solar power to provide electricity to schools Hurricane Matthew destroyed the power grid in the southern district of Haiti in October, 2016. The orphanage/children's community, home to 240 resident children known as Pwoje Espwa (Project Hope), has been without electricity since. The ability of our students to learn without proper lighting and other benefits of power is severely limited. Our schools not only educate our resident students but also local village children who have no public schools to attend. In total, Pwoje Espwa provides education for over 1000 students.
