Plans are drawn. We are meeting with school personnel and students to finalize design so the plaza will receive the most use. Once the design And budget is finalized, we can begin construction with the goal of completion next summer.

The final plans have been approved by the Rapid City Area School District and Rushmore Rotary. The project build was delayed because the school district would only allow construction during the summer months. A local contractor is doing the construction, with much of it pro bono. We are very grateful to the contractor, LindExco, who is working with the subcontractors to keep the cost down. We are going to install five benches, a trash receptacle, bike rack and skateboard rack. We met with administration, staff and students to get their input on design. Another partner is Western Dakota Tech. The welding department will make all the benches etc. Unfortunately, with Covid-19, they won't be able to complete until this fall semester. We're excited to have this partnership.

The projects are going well considering the current environment. Last semester Western Dakota had to close down the labs 5 different times for deep cleaning. This coupled with students out for weeks at a time due to illness or close contacts made the semester challenging. However, the school was able to get a lot accomplished considering. Two park benches have started the final stage of completion, needing mainly the seat slats fitted and welded in place. The 2 trash receptacles only need the doors fabricated and placed, and they will be complete. They are expecting a smooth start to this semester, with those 4 projects completed by the first half of February. We anticipate all benches, bike rack, trash receptacles and skate board rack being completed this spring for ribbon cutting.

Benches, trash receptacle, skateboard racks and bike racks will be installed this month along with Rotary Plaza sign. We anticipate completion of this project this fall when school is in session with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The Rotary Plaza at Rapid City High School is nearly finished. Two benches, trash receptacle, two bike racks and a skateboard rack are installed. One more bench is in order, with dedication planned for this spring, subject to key partners availability. We engaged many community partners for this project and Rushmore Rotary remains active in support of the students and staff.
