Location: Lexington

Total Budget: $1,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Summary: 2,000 dictionaries to third grade children

The purpose of this project is to help students acquire strong literacy skills and, thus, allow them to be successful in school. The ultimate goal of this project is for students to receive a high school diploma.

This project will be carried out in the elementary schools of Lexington, Nebraska. There are two components of the project. The first component is to provide a free dictionary to all third grade students in the four Lexington elementary schools.

The second component is an essay contest on the subject of the Rotary "4-Way Test." The essay contest will be for all fifth grade students in the four Lexington elementary schools.

The estimated cost of this project is $1,000 including the cost of dictionaries, 4-Way Test bookmarks, 4-Way Test pens and a small cash award for each of the four essay contest winners.

We will be starting handing out the dictionairies in August 2013 and the 4 way test for 5 grades will start in jan 2014.
