Project Description Country: USA Location: Gothenburg Nebraska Total Budget: $1,000 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Scholarships Summary: Two $500 scholarships provided to qualified students after completion of one half vocational or junior college We are a new Rotary group. Our first goal is to support education to the young adults in our community. We have identified a group of students that often get "over-looked" for scholarships. Those groups are vocational or tech/trade schools and Junior colleges. We feel it is important to support this group as these are often the type of jobs needed in our small community. Jobs such as Electricians, Plumbers and Nurses will bring our young community members or keep this population part of our great town. This is needed for continual prosperity and growth for our community. We have a committee formed that has made the applications and have the school guidance couselor involved as well. Once the applications process is complet, the committee will review and make decision of the two recipients. The Rotary After Dark will have a representative personally hand out the awards at the student's Honors Night ceremony in which a description of the project and details of Rotary will be explained to the public and students. The monies will be given after the student has completed one half of their program with proof of passing grades. Since we are a newer group the funds received from the district grant would help us get this project started. If our group is able to fund this project we plan on doing this annually via fund raising projects.
