A small, burgeoning club wishes to revitalize the RYE program in their area. The Rotarians of Palisade, NE, a satellite of the Rotary Club of Imperial, have embarked on doing just that. With help from the Imperial Rotarians and the District RYE Committee, this small club has gone through the process of being able to host a young Interactor from Brazil in the communities of Palisade and Wauneta, Nebraska in the 2019-2020 school year. As a young club, funds are limited at this time.
With this opportunity, it is the hopes of the local Rotarians, that relationships are built between Imperial, Palisade, and Wauneta with the reinvigoration of this program as a catalyst for a strong future relationship between them and other countries of the world, as Imperial once had exchange students in the past.
Both the Imperial and Palisade Rotarians have recently started or renewed Interact in their local schools, as well. The current RYE project has sparked future interest in at least one other student from the area.
The funds would be used as a seed to fund part of the foreign exchange student's monthly stipend during his stay. Further fundraising has begun to supplement the remaining money needed. ($100 per month of his stay=$900, $900-625=$275 remaining) Club members will be involved in hosting, counseling, and making sure his stay meets all of the Rotary requirements. They would also be involved with further fundraising the $275 needed for the balance of the 9 month stipend, with completion of this by December 2019. Members of the Palisade Satellite have committed to providing his cell phone and plan for the entirety of his stay as well.
This project will bring a part of world to the rural, Southwest Nebraska area, build understanding and goodwill, and bring opportunities for future relationships for Rotarians and community members.
