The Minden Rotary Club has been sending one or two campers to RYLA camp at Halsey Nebraska for many years. The club promotes the camp to Minden High School students who are in their junior year. We have a long time chairman of this program who puts on a program at the school to cultivate interest from the students. Applicants are accepted and are transported to camp by a volunteer or volunteers from our club.
RYLA seeks to develop leadership and friendships among the campers. The camp serves to introduce campers to others who reside in other western and central Nebraska communities. Since we are in a rural area of the United States this is particularly important as these types of encounters are limited. The campers we sponsor return to our club following camp to tell us about their experiences. We have been gratified to see how excited and grateful the campers are to have attended RYLA.
The costs associated with this request are the fees for the campers. The fees for campers in the summer of 2019 are 400 dollars per camper. The fees for next year may be somewhat higher. We are anticipating the cost for two campers to attend RYLA next year to be 800 dollars.
