Kenya, like all African countries, has thousands of those who must crawl, after having been crippled by Polio, since they are unable to stand or walk. The clubs in Interact District 5495 collect crutches, walkers, wheelchairs and other mobility devices and, in partnership with the Rotarian Crutches 4 Africa organization, ship containers of these each year to Rotary partners in Kenya. In addition, Interact District 5495 selects and sends each summer in July a team of Interact members & advisors to Kenya to help distribute these devices to Kenya's most needy recipients. When new Kenyan regulations this year made it impossible to ship a container directly to Kenya, Crutches 4 Africa agreed to give 1/4 of the contents of a container shipped to Uganda to Interact District 5495, so the devices could be trucked from Kampala, Uganda, to Naivasha, Kenya, in time for the Team's arrival on July 3, 2019. Prescott Sunup Rotary has already contributed $500 toward the $2,260.30 quarter of the shipping cost for that container sent to Uganda. Art Harrington, Prescott Sunup Rotary Foundation Chair, is heavily involved in training the Interact Ambassadors team and coordinating the project.
