This project will provide full-year scholarships to four students to attend different universities in Kenya. The financing would help to cover tuition, room and board and other incidental expenses for a year. The Del Mar Solana Beach Rotary and two members of this same club have supported these students in the past for attending a university. The background for this project lies in five-year history of sponsors and Rotary supporting these students through secondary school and at a university.
These students live in a rural and impoverished area of Kenya in and around the city of Chogoria. Their families live in mud houses without electricity and have only limited income from farming. Without education, these students have little or no options to make enough money to support themselves, their parents and siblings. All students attending and graduating from university will positively impact the families and the entire community. Because of their education, these students will become employable and bring improved finances to their families and their village. All of these students are first-time family members who have graduated from high school and are now attending a university.
The Club contribution for these funds will be through a donation from two of the Club's members.
