Project Description
IMD Guest House is and independent 501(c)(3) that provides temporary lodging to medical patients seeking treatment in Chicago, and their families. It is the only organization that supports patients of all ages, seeking any type of treatment. Key populations include cancer patients, organ transplant recipients, families of seriously ill children, and military veterans receiving treatment for PTSD. Due to COVID-19, patient traffic has slowed as all elective treatment has been postponed. This has created excess capacity, which IMD Guest House has designated for use by front-line medical professionals at Rush University Medical Center and UI Health free of charge, when they need a safe and convenient place to stay near the hospital, during the fight against COVID-19. A few key facts:
• 47 fully furnished apartments
• Supported 964 families in 2019, providing nearly 12,250 nights of service
• No family was turned away for financial reasons
• 50% of service to medical patients supported low-income families
