Summary: Bales Elementary School Literacy Program Books and Readers
Summer Literacy Project for Bales Elementary School Literacy program for the Buckeye Elementary School District. I.Bales Elementary School is located at 25400 West Maricopa Road, Buckeye, Arizona 85326. II. Bales Elementary currently has 755 students enrolled in grade kindergarten through eighth grade. III. There are 28 classroom teacher. IV. Students at Bales are more likely to be at risk academically due to their socio-economic status. V. The Bales School has identified addressing gaps in basic literacy skill as a high priority need for its students. VI. Approximately 30-40 students in grades first through fourth grades will be identified to receive intensive literacy intervention during the summer. VII. Students will be selected using Buckeye Elementary School District assessment data including Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) & (AzMERIT) for third and fourth graders.VIII. Children who are able to read enjoy school and learning more and are more likely to graduate from High School. IX. Addressing these gaps in literacy skills provides a foundation for future success in education and beyond. X. The Summer Literacy program will meet Mondays through Thursdays. XI. Funding will also be used to purchased curriculum for the Literacy program as well as take home readers for students to practice reading skills learned during the program at home. The Rotarian's that will participate are Cheryl Peterson, Jackie Meck, Larry Hall, Carl Goin, Dick Crichton, David Faragher, Dr.Kristi Sandvik. These Rotarian's will participate in supporting the Buckeye Elementary School District Staff during the Literacy Project.
