This Project is a continuation of Jungle Medical Clinic I (P-114) which has been very successful and helped the very poor families of rural jungle areas of Usulutan. It allowed access to basic health services, vaccines, medication, pre/post natal care and family planning education. The new project will continue support on the same lines and eduacate the families and specifically stress importance to the following:
o Monthly educational training classes on issues related to the physical and mental health, environmental sanitation and prevention of violence to women, groups that are at risk such as pregnant women and mothers of malnourished children and also teach adults and young people in general.
o Demonstrative trainings on healthy cooking recipes based on soy food and promotion of the cultivation of vegetables.
o House calls by nurses and/or nurse practitioners once in two months to each of the participating families to strengthen the educational content provided in the training classes on one on one basis and also to verify the conditions of sanitation within each households.
o Environmental sanitation. These actions are being done by participating families, under the leadership of the community health promoter and the Support Committee and in coordination with the Community Health Clinic.
To encourage upbringing of the community to a better standard of living, the families are encouraged to participate in keeping up the hygiene, better sanitation, clean environment and effective use of power and water. The cleanest and the most progressive family wins the monetary award and the two runners up are given award certificates.
This project is a sustainable project and will be completed in one year. The clinic will be owned and continued by the local non-profit NGO O.E.F.indefinitely at their own expenses.
