Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Surprise

Total Budget: $1,000

Area of Focus: Peacebuilding and conflict prevention

Activity Type: Community Development: Disaster Recovery

Summary: Matching Grant for 1 shelter box to aid 1 family in need

ShelterBox exists to meet the emergency household needs of children, women, and men who have been displaced due to disaster. The proposed project would provide tents accompanied by non-food items to newly displaced families. The funds received would be allocated to ShelterBox Deployment Essentials, to fund one ShelterBox for one family. The family could be beneficiaries from any of the countries ShelterBox is serving at the time the funds are received.

Outcome 1: Vulnerable children, women, and men can access critical emergency aid: The aid provided will enable families to regain a sense of normalcy by ensuring their basic needs are met.

Outcome 2: Families can remain intact: The provision of critically needed aid will ensure families are able to stay together - aid will provide warmth, light, basic hygiene supplies, and the utensils needed to prepare and eat meals together.

Outcome 3: Improved health and hygiene: Basic wash supplies will help improve sanitary conditions and help children, women, and men maintain basic health and hygiene.

Additional Information: The tents and many of the NFIs being distributed will be co-branded with both the ShelterBox and Rotary logos. ShelterBox is currently Rotary International's only global Project Partner for disaster relief. This agreement enables both organizations to collaborate more closely to bring relief and temporary shelter to survivors of disasters worldwide. The project partnership has built on both organization's strengths in responding to disasters all over the world. This project aligns with Rotary's focus area of peace and conflict prevention/resolution. The work of ShelterBox in war-torn countries has led to a Nobel Peace Prize nomination.
