Orange Sunrise Rotary Club is proud of the Interact Program at El Modena High School. This club has a dedicated group of highly motivated, service minded students, who consistently attend Rotary Sponsored Leadership Camps, perform a variety of Interact Club generated service activities along with helping Orange Sunrise Rotary with many of its own service activities, including the Orange Plaza Car Show.
This year our Orange Sunrise Rotary would like to offer $1,400.00 in scholarships to deserving Interactors. The purpose of these scholarships is to defray the cost of the recipient's 1st year of college.
The scholarships will be offered to any graduating senior who meets the following criteria.
1. Recommendation from the Interact Faculty Advisor
2. Minimum G.P.A. of 3.0
3. The graduating student has been an active member of the Interact Club for the past two years.
4. The student has served on the Interact Board for a least one year
5. The student will have been an active member of the Interact Club who can demonstrate that he/she has contributed to the betterment of the Orange community through the service events sponsored by the Interact Club and Orange Sunrise Rotary.
In order to receive the grant, students will need to fill out an application that has the following:
Transcript
Documentation of Service Projects
Documentation of Membership in the Interact Club
Recommendation from Mrs. Greenlee, the Interact Advisor
We will collect the applications and prescreen. Those that meet the requirements will be interviewed by a panel of Orange Sunrise Rotarians. The school will be notified of the winners, and a member of Orange Sunrise Rotary will attend the awards ceremony (will sit on stage) to present the awards at this dignified ceremony. Pictures will be taken and the local newspaper will be notified.
I have been fortunate this year to have had time to attend many Interact meetings. This has given me the opportunity to mentor the students by suggesting service activities, to help students develop leadership skills and to be a guide for their Club, I attended the Interact Symposium and a member of our Club will be attending RYLA along with El Modena Interactors. It is in part, though these events, that the recipient of the scholarships will emerge.
The timeline for the grant is from September 2012 through June 2013. The scholarships will be awarded at the El Modena Awards Ceremony in early June.
This is a wonderful opportunity for the Orange Sunrise Rotary Club to not only have visibility in the Orange Community but to honor well deserving students.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
The post-secondary scholarships were not allowed by The Rotary Foundation for the year 2012-2013. We have substituted a "Blessing Bag" project. Our club members distribute bags to indiviuals who we encounter that are in need of help. As am example, we all come across men and women less fortunate than ourselves in shopping centers and on street corners. Rather than money we give them our "blessing bags." All of our club members participate in the project and we will prepare 350 bags.
