Summary: BACKPACKS AND AGE APPROPRIATE SCHOOL SUPPLIES SO ALL CHILDREN ARE PREPARED PROPERLY FOR SCHOOL
Our school readiness "backpack" project has been a huge success in the past and this year has the makings to be another accomplished program. Our Rotarians have an immense desire to have each and every child ready and prepared from day one. When a child cannot come to the first day of school equipped with what he/she needs to begin, these factors can affect a child's physical and cognitive development. This can lead to mental conditions that impact a student's motivation and desire to do well in school. With the assistance of the local school district, we have identified approximately 325 students who are in need of an help in this area. Our Rotary Club works in conjunction with the Community Action Program (CAP) and the School District to purchase and distribute school uniforms, shoes, supplies etc. to these students located in Wickenburg as well as surrounding areas. So from Day 1 - each child is on a level playing field. Rotary Club of Wickenburg gathers all the school supplies and will meet the afternoon of July 17 to organize. We will then meet again the 26th of July to fill the backpacks and we will then we load them up and move them over to the CAP office for distribution the following morning, July 27, to many enthusiastic children.
