Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Main Street El Cajon, Ca

Total Budget: $14,000

Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy, Community economic development

Activity Type: Food/Agriculture: General

Summary: Salvation Army's new kitchen to serve senior citizen, immigrant and low income families.

The El Cajon Rotary is requesting a district grant to support of the Salvation Army's new community center. Specifically, we would like to offset some of the merchandise costs for their new kitchen. The equipment and hood are key components in this new kitchen which will support senior, youth and family programs. The Salvation Army's new building and kitchen plans to provide classes to teach seniors and other Food Bank clients how to make healthy meals with the emergency food they receive through our food bank. This kitchen will be used during the Salvation Army's annual free Thanksgiving and Christmas Community meals, which will serve the large low-income senior population in our community. They serve 120-130 seniors daily through the various programs offered.

The total cost of the new kitchen hood and related equipment will be $42,248.00. A brochure is attached to show the pricing of the equipment and installation. The El Cajon Rotary has authorized $10,000 out of club funds for the equipment purchase and we are looking for a district grant for $4000 to offset a large part of the purchase price. The Salvation Army said that out of appreciation of Rotary's generosity they will display a Rotary International logo on the kitchen hood. We will of course use this as a Rotary branding opportunity and invite the local media to the opening ceremony. In addition, we will capture the event on social networks.

Thank you for your consideration in this grant application. Please let me know if you need any more information.
