Project Description Country: USA Location: Carlsbad Total Budget: $2,000 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Literacy Summary: Provide dictionaries to all third graders in Carlsbad Unified School District For the past 15+ years the Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary has been delivering Webster's dictionaries to every third grader in Carlsbad. The dictionaries purchased thru the SoCal Dictionary Project and are delivered to the nine elementary schools in the Carlsbad Unified School District. The Club has also provide Spanish-English dictionaries for those students that speak Spanish at home. The club affixes a sticker in the front cover that has the Four Way Test and a place for their name. For some of these students this is the first book that they have ever owned. The teachers use these books in the classroom all year and then the students are able to bring the book home. This is an annual project that is highly anticipated and positively received by school communities (administrators, teachers, parents, students) in our district and usually takes place in October. This is great program for our Rotarians to get out into the community and interact in a positive way with the next generation!
