The Wildflower Initiative builds and stocks libraries in local women's, children's, and homeless shelters. They do so for programs of at least 6 months in length with a live-in component, so that residents can have a safe and comfortable space to read and enjoy all the things that books can bring to their lives. These spaces also are often used for bookclubs, noncustodial parent visits, children's learning activities, and more.
Our club will be using the funds around October of this year to purchase the bookshelves, chairs, and other materials needed to build the entire library for the Women's Resource Center in Oceanside. They have an empty room and we will be installing everything needed to turn it into a safe, relaxing reading space for both women and children.
Club members will volunteer day-of to install and stock the library, and we will have roughly 10-12 volunteers present to build the bookshelves and organize the 3,000+ books that have been donated for the project.
