Project Description Country: USA Location: Wagner SD Total Budget: $2,200 Areas of Focus: Water and sanitation, Basic education and literacy, Economic and community development Activity Type: Community Development: Construction/Renovation Summary: Construct a new recycling bin for aluminum cans-recycling proceeds used for student scholarships Our Rotary club took over the responsibility of the Lions Club aluminum can recycling bin in 2017 when that group disbanded. The old recycling bin is wooden and is in tough shape from being moved a couple of times. It also has no top to keep the cans from blowing out during windstorms. Our plan is to construct a new design for the bin that will allow cans to be dropped off easily and also have a sloping lid to keep the donations contained. The new bin will also be constructed from metal so that it will hold up for many years out in the elements. Redesigning the bin will help to keep the street and surrounding area cleaner and prevent cans from having to be picked up after a storm. The funds from the cans that are recycled are used to give back to local high school seniors as scholarships to further their education. This project is a great way to provide a service to our community, show our pride in our downtown area, and provide for students education. Local Rotarians will provide the engineering design, welding fabrication, and painting of the new bin. Signage will be updated on the bin and the Rotary emblem will be proudly displayed.
