We plan on providing six (6) scholarships of $1,000 each. Club members are involved in raising the funds thru our flag program and other fund raisers. Club members are also involved with school district officials and through our Rotaract partners to help identify worthy students.
For several years, the Denton (Noon) Rotary Club has provided scholarship to students graduating from Denton high schools. Typically, each scholarship is $1,000 per student. Funds for these scholarships are raised by our members through our flag program and other fundraisers.
It has come to our attention through our Rotaract partners that there is a need for second and third year scholarships. In the Texas university system, out of state students qualify for in-state tuition if they receive a minimum $1,000 scholarship.
The average annual cost of attendance for a Texas resident living on campus and enrolled in 15 hours per semester is $25,680.For out-of-state students 15 hours per semester is $38,340.Consequently, a $1,000 scholarship from Rotary has the potential of decreasing a student's tuition by nearly $13,000 per year.
This year, the Denton Rotary Club will offer four $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from Denton high schools and two $1,000 scholarships to second and third year college students. Students will be interviewed and selected prior to the end of the school year or college semester.
