Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Anchorage Alaska

Total Budget: $1,500

Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Community Development: Renovation

Summary: Gladys Woods Elementary School long jump pit

Gladys Woods is a older design school and lacks field and Track amenities. We can't add everything needed this year and have selected the long jump pit to start with. This will be part of our ongoing support of the local school that serves many low income families.

We will design the long jump to meet school district standards, get approval from Anchorage school district and the Municipality of Anchorage, construct the pit with all volunteers and try and involve as many students as possible. Funds will be used for permits and building supplies only. Donated supplies will be solicited. No overhead or labor will be billed.

We are waiting on approval of design from the Anchorage School District and the Municipality of Anchorage. Surprisingly enough their are no standards for long jump pits for either organization. This lack of standards and winter season has stymied us.

We have a licensed architect in our club who is meeting to finalize design with both organizations this month. We have a builder in the club who will start mid may on construction. Should only be a couple days to complete construction.
