Project Description Country: USA Location: Yonkers Total Budget: $5,000 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Literacy Summary: Provide books for 3rd graders & Pencils for 1st & 2nd Graders in Yonkers We will be providing selected books (approved by the School District) to 3rd grade students, and Pencils to First and Second Grade students in Yonkers Public Schools. It will take about twenty Rotarians to complete this project. Each child can improve reading, vocabulary, word origins and spelling. The books give third graders a resource at home to help with spelling and grammar for school. Several of the schools we will provide bookss and pencils to are classified as Title 1 schools and have high rates of economically disadvantaged students who may not have access to online study resources at home. The books and pencils will be purchased and distributed in the early Spring 2020. Club members will label all books, deliver to 3rd grade classes, Pencils will be supplied in boxes with a Rotary label on each box to all First and Second Grade Classes. The project funds will help pay for the books (about 450 books), pencils (5000 imprinted with Club Name) as well as the Rotary labels. The labels are pasted in the front page of each book.
