Purpose of Grant: As part of larger ongoing projects designed to help eliminate barriers to single Arlington parents obtaining childcare necessary for them to gain employment, this grant will be used to make a charitable contribution to the City of Arlington Parks and Recreation Department to support children who will benefit by being able to attend the City's Summer Camp Dream Program at no or reduced cost.
Impact of Grant: This grant would pay the full tuition for 4-5 transition children or teens to attend the full 11-week full-day camp summer program operated by the City of Arlington's Park and Recreation Department.
This initiative ties into the City of Arlington's Childcare Summit in September 2019, which will bring together employers, childcare providers, and parents to explore what quality childcare looks like, the need for it, and better ways to access it. This camp provides a full-day childcare alternative during the summer when school is not in session.
This initiative also supports the 100-Day Challenge designed to accelerate efforts in preventing and ending youth homelessness within their communities as the recipients of this support likely are from transition families who are, or are at risk of being, homeless.
