Project Description

Country: British Virgin Islands

Location: Tortola, BVI

Total Budget: $4,955

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: General

Summary: Education programs and school supplies in areas of British Virgin Islands damaged by Hurricane Irma

The Rotary Club of Tortola (BVI) has adopted 2 primary schools and provides school resources, like furniture, and school supplies. Additionally, the club provides volunteers, leadership, and financial resources to the Youth Empowerment Programme in the BVI.

Metroport is partnering with the Tortola club to provide additional financial resources to assist in these programs, in light of the significant damage the islands incurred from Hurricane Irma.

Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

This project was refined to construct a new student greenhouse and vegetable garden and to restore student lunch benches at the 2 sponsored primary schools. Due to coronavirus lockdown provisions, these projects have not yet been initiated but the Rotary Club of Tortola intends to complete them as soon as restrictions are lifted.
