Clare House has moved into a new facility that will double the capacity (from 50) to serve homeless women and children in both emergency situations and longer term. A new commercial kitchen is being installed in the new facility, a commercial dishwasher is needed so the residents will no longer be forced to use paper product for all meals. A.I.R. currently provides meals on the 3rd Friday every other month, that food budget not only includes the meals but is used to provide dining paper products which run $50-60 for the days meals. The over-all saving will now be used to stock the pantry with consumable items like diapers, laundry soap, shampoo etc. This provides additional food security for the shelter. Construction is currently under way and grand opening is scheduled for the end of July 2013.
Our club continues to regularly support Clare House with dinners and Santa parties, and at other fund raising events that Clare house has during the year.
AIR will actually purchase the dishwasher - We were able to get a little better price from a fellow Rotarian, so we will have a bit more for the installation and supplies if we can stretch the cash that far.
