Summary: Provide dictionaries to four elementary schools in Mission Beach/ Pacific Beach, CA

The purpose of this grant would be to request DDF Funding to mirror the support we have for Mission Beach/Pacific Beach for the Clairemont Community which is currently not served by a Rotary Club and provide a match of DDF for $1,000 to be donated to Polio Plus.

Our club funds would support the following:

Mission Beach/Pacific Beach

$300 - Dictionaries for four Mission Beach/ Pacific Beach elementary schools.

$1,000 Polio Plus

DDF request would fund

Clairemont

$300 - Dictionaries for Clairemont third graders

$1,000 Polio Plus Match

Background

For the past five years, the Mission Bay Rotary Club has been fundraising to replace the Crown Point Pavilion. This was initially a $80,000 project which grew to under $300,000. Thankfully city and county funding has supported this effort. This project has been a financial burden for the club which has impacted our annual giving, community support and contributions to polio plus. Thankfully, we have now broken ground on this project.

We currently have ongoing committments to area schools in the community to provide dictionaries, RYLA Scholarships, Interact Club support and a schoolarship for Interact seniors at Mission Bay High School.

Several years ago, inquires were received from Clairemont High School asking to establish some programs there. We had hoped to find another club to take on this community or to partner in this endeavor as our club is small. Unfortunately we had no success. Ultimately, our membership decided to split our RYLA support between the Mission Bay High School and Clairemont Highschool students. This support resulted in a request to sponsor an Interact Club at Clairemont High School.

Funds would be fully expended by the end of the fiscal year.
