Fernanda Torres is the Peace Chair of San Diego Coastal Rotary Club and is living in Tijuana during the COVID 19 quarantine. She has identified areas of dire need for basic food in high risk populations in TJ. These include 2 orphanages (Casa Hogar Sonrisa and the Orphanage of Maclavio Rojas totaling 55 children) and 60 families living isolated in TJ (Eurime DBA Es Por Los Ninos). There are no government programs to support these vulnerable people, charitable donations are limited and getting food now in TJ is uniquely challenging due to the pandemic. Through the help of Luis Torres of the Tijuana Oeste Rotary Club who owns a food warehouse, Fernanda will be able to secure bulk beans, rice, cooking oil and other staples at cost. Fernanda has volunteers to package the food and distribute the packages to the orphanages and families. The project could be completed in 1 week from the time the money is sent.
