Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Boise

Total Budget: $1,440

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Literacy

Summary: Distributing approximately 150-180 dictionaries to 5 third grade classes in five different schools in Boise.

The Rotary Club of Boise Centennial has participated in the Rotary dictionary project since we started and we would like to use this grant to continue again this year. We will provide dictionaries to the five 3rd grade classes that we normally do to help the students increase their literacy and introduce them to Rotary. We plan to have these distributed by November 2020. The Funds from the grant will be used to purchase the dictionaries and the Rotarians in the club will distribute them and instruct the students on how to use them.

Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

This project continues to be delayed by Covid.

We have a commitment from 3 schools.

We changed the order because there was a lack of response form the teachers so far fewer books will be delivered. Here is what changed:

6 cases on ordered (normally its 18-20)

Price is the same as last year: $72.00 per case

Cost: $432.00 vs. last year: $1,440.00

3 3rd grades/schools vs 6 last year

Please let us know if you have questions and if we need to do anything because of the changes.

ADDENDUM: We plan to use the remaining grant funds ($1,008) for broader, similar literacy projects including materials to build little libraries, signage for the libraries, and books to keep them stocked throughout the year.

Your club may request $1,150 in DDF for a project of this size. Don't you want to adjust your financing to reflect $1,150 of DDF and $290 of club money? After that, and if you're happy with your application, send for signatures (primary contact & incoming club president only) on the administration side of the description tab. To be considered for funding, project applications must be signed by both parties by June 1, 2020.

ADDENDUM: Per an email with Ines on 12/2/21, we would like to request an addendum to increase the scope of the project. We would like to use the remaining grant funds ($1,008) toward a broader, similar literacy project to build little libraries for underserved preschools in Boise. Items would include materials to build little libraries, signage for the libraries, and books to keep them stocked throughout the year.
