Reveille's mission is to support the senior citizens in our community. The Casper Senior Center is an essential part of the services offered to seniors; a big part of this is providing meals in their dining room.
The current chairs have many issues. Many of the chairs are bent from heavy use; most are so stained that they will no longer clean up with upholstery cleaners. The chairs with arms no longer have padding, so the screws holding the arm pads in place are sticking up through the fabric. This is an issue because many of the seniors are on blood thinner medications and anything protruding could result in a skin tear and bleeding.
The new chairs are steel construction and padded with vinyl allowing the entire chair to be cleaned on the spot when necessary. With this construction there is no need to purchase additional chairs for larger patrons because the new chairs can accommodate an individual weighing up to 500 pounds.
The tables need to be replaced because the Formica tops have been glued and re-glued, but still present sharp edges that could result in skin tears. In addition the tables have been bent from large individuals using them to assist in standing.
Bottom line, the safety of the seniors is of paramount concern. The new furniture will assure that the facility provides a comfortable and safe environment.
Reveille Rotary will provide funds to assist in purchasing the new chairs and tables.
The club will put the chairs and tables together and help arrange them in the dining room. The club will also help the Senior Center dispose of the existing furniture either by finding an organization that can use it or recycling it at Casper's metal recycler.
Once the items are ordered they are expected to arrive in July or August. The club will unpack the parts and put the chairs and tables together as soon as they arrive. Once the new furniture is in place, Reveille will facilitate getting rid of the old furniture.
The total project should be complete by the end of August.
