Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Mineral Wells, TX

Total Budget: $9,500

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

Activity Type: Health: Volunteer Services

Summary: 12-14 chair one day dental clinic to provide free dental services to poor residents of Palo Pinto County

We will be providing free dental care to persons who have been identified as living below the poverty level, and because of this have no access to Dental Care. we will set up a one day clinic with 12-14 dental chairs staffed with dentists and hygienists who we will recruit with help of the Texas Dental Association's Smile Foundation. The Smile Foundation will also provide the equipment needed for this, and help our local Rotary plan the project. Rotarians with medical and dental backgrounds will serve as clinic personnel. Other Rotarians will help serving food to volunteers and patients in the waiting areas, shuttling patients between clinic areas, as well as aiding in set up and breakdown of clinic. Also Rotarians will serve on the planning committee. Project funds will be used to transport the clinic equipment, dental supplies used, any necessary repair and or expenses incurred in setting up dental chairs and units and sterilizers, facility rental, meals and hospitality. The project is scheduled for June 14,2014. $7500 of total funds need to be raised by May 17, 2014

We are currently beginning to recruit dentists for this project. An insert went out with the annual statement from the Texas Dental Association, urging dentists to sign up for this project. We will put together a planning committee in January consisting of both Rotarians as well as other leaders in the Mineral Wells Community.

The committee is made up of Rotarians and members of the community. Our partner the TDA is recruiting dentists from all over TX. We are pursuing donors to the 2009 and 2011 Mineral Wells Mission of Mercy events to secure the remaining needed funds. Also we have received a Donation form the Alliance to the Fort Worth Distirct Dental society of $500. our hospitality chairman and community chair are working on securing donations in kind to provide for food and beverages. At this time we have our Senior Center social worker working on identifying needy individuals who will be prescreened for the event so we can start promptly at 7 AM on June 14.
