Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Fort Collins

Total Budget: $6,000

Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy, Community economic development

Activity Type: Education: General

Summary: Provide gift card care packages to single parents in Larimer County who are participants of Project Self-Sufficiency

Project Self-Sufficiency is a non-profit organization in Larimer County that assists low-income, single parents in their efforts to achieve economic independence and become free from community and government assistance while building and maintaining strong, healthy families.

In the wake of COVID-19 and the resulting business closures and economic impact, Project Self-Sufficiency is in need of emergency funding to support its single-parent families as many were laid off or saw reduced work hours from their only source of income.

To date, Project Self-Sufficiency has provided financial support to families through gas and grocery cards, utility and rent assistance, as well as technical resources to families unable to complete their children's distance learning and those unable to continue with their own online learning expectations. The organization expects an even greater financial need as families deplete any reserves they may have, and experience further reductions in work hours.

The funds from this grant will be used to purchase gift cards for items like groceries, gas and school supplies (as defined by the organization in relation to greatest need) and will be packaged by members of the Rotary Club of Fort Collins, along with letters of encouragement written by our club volunteers, and then distributed to the single parents at their homes by our club volunteers (with social distancing practices in place).

Quarterly Update:

The Rotary Club of Fort Collins is hosting an in-person service project on October 21st at 5:30pm at Speedpro Fort Collins to complete the service portion of the project. This will consist of writing letters of encouragement to the single parent families, enclosing the gift cards in each letter and putting into an envelope. These will then be delivered to the organization and given out to each single parent family.

Kerrie,

Thank you for uploading the final report. I did not see a copy of either the receipt from Kroger or a copy of the club check written to Kroger. Once you upload either of these I can close out the project.
