Project Description Country: USA Location: Brownwood, Tx Total Budget: $900 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Literacy Summary: A dictionary is given to every third grader in the eight elementary school districts in Brown County. The Brownwood Rotary Club is very dedicated to providing a dictionary to each of approximately 550 third graders in the County. The Club has voted to make this one of the projects for the 2013-14 club year and budgeted $450. We, the Brownwood Rotary Members, believe that placing a book in the hand of a child is opening up the world of information and promotes literacy. The Rotary members visit each of the eight school districts in the Fall and personally present a dictionary to each student highlighting some of the information found in the dictionary. The Club orders the dictionaries from the www.dictionaryproject.org website. Timeline: The dictionaries are ordered on August 15 and stamped with "Presented to _____ by Brownwood Rotary Club" inside the front cover. Distribution to school districts between October 1 and December 15.
