Members of the Escondido Sunrise Rotary Club have visited the Kibera slum (Africa's largest) and established relationships with area Rotarians and community activists working for the betterment of conditions. The population, estimated from 170,000 to 2 million, suffer dire financial hardships (income is $1.00 per day), lack of all basic necessities, and must deal with rampant Aids as well as the ravages of Covid-19, promising to further lower their present 30 year life expectancy.
Working with local Rotarians, activists, and occupants who somehow have managed to rise above abject poverty, our Rotary Club will form a local focus group to determine how to best utilize available funds through a sustainable project offering a measurable outcome.
