Summary: Christmas stockings provided to students from two elementary schools in Arlington, TX
Arlington Sunrise Club has provided a variety of support over several years to Thornton Elementary School. Recently the club has also been supporting Anderson Elementary. Both schools are located in a depressed area of Arlington and most of the kids come from minority families. As a rule these kids get few, if any, presents at Christmas. Several years ago the club members decided to give each kid a "stuffed" Christmas stocking. This is a significant undertaking as each school has approximately 800 students. This grant will be used to provide super sized stockings stuffed with gifts to brighten the holiday for each kid. The stockings are assembled and distributed by club members in two phases - after the contents are purchased, members gather to stuff them. Then prior to the holiday, members gather at the schools to give them out. Funds are used to purchase gifts and supporting material. As of now the timeline for this is Christmas 2020.
