Palo Verde Unified School libraries are in need of donations to purchase needed reading materials. Palo Verde Unified School District currently enrolls approximately 3,700 K-12 students in seven schools, of those schools six have libraries that are well-attended by Blythe students. The students served by these libraries are over 65% socio-economically disadvantaged. In addition, a significant portion of our student population at each of the schools is classified as English Learner.
Budget constraints over the past years provided no funds for non-essential books. The only funds available were categorical funds which can only be used for purchase of required student textbooks. To stimulate reading, we hope to provide young and young adult fiction books. The Palo Verde Unified School District libraries will house these books.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
Project completed in June 2014; 63 Hardback Fiction books; distributed equitably among our three elementary schools in Blythe, CA. A label was put into each book's front cover that identifies the donor being the RC of Blythe and The Four-Way Test.
