|
There is not a defined, quickly accessible source of funding for medical needs for limited English speaking families in our when medical attention needs of the family are identified. Further, the families do not have funding to get to appointments, so transportation is an issue. This grant could provide a depository of funds that can be more easily accessed when families have urgent medical needs that might otherwise be ignored (until it becomes an emergency situation). Second language families put off their medical needs due to lack of finance. If they were aware of resources and had a familiar person to call (such as the Migrant Family Coordinator in Kearney), they would seek attention and become healthier. HelpCare Clinic is available for some needs, but these funds could support getting to other clinics and transportation to appointments. If funds were provided by the grant, and a community coordinator was responsible to disburse the funds and provide an accountability report to Rotary, we would make a significant contribution to the health of our community. We would show inclusiveness of culture within our community.
