Project Description

Country: South Africa

Location: Johannesburg

Total Budget: $7,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Scholarship

Summary: The purpose of this grant is to provide quality specialized education to 5 South African Children in Johannesburg South Africa.

Oasis Haven is committed to providing orphaned and vulnerable children with an environment suitable for learning. We believe that just sending children to any school is not good enough as most of our children have difficulties in learning which require a different approach to how they are taught. Rotary has sponsored the school fees of the children at Oasis Haven for the last four years and this has allowed us to provide consistent, quality education to these children.

This grant request is specific to our 5 children attending The Kings School, Robin Hills. The Kings School has been one of the primary schools our children have attended for more than 10 years. We have found that the small class sizes and team approach to learning have been highly valuable and effective for our children.

Government schools are not an ideal option as most classes often have 40 to 50 children in them making it an inappropriate learning environment especially if the child has learning challenges.

We are able to leverage our social media, collateral material, website and other Public forums to recognize Rotary as a contributor. We are also able to issue tax Receipts and letters of recognition to all donors.

Below is the account statement from Steps Academy showing payment for schooling fees. Oasis Haven US sent a total of 2 wires to Oasis Haven South Africa for these fees from the Grant Funds received from Rotary. The first wire was sent on August 12, 2020 with the $3,500 from RB Sunrise converting to 58,100 RAND. The second was on October 27, 2020 and the $3,500 from the matching grant funds converted to 53,657 RAND. So all said, a total of 111,757 RAND was sent to cover the cost of the attached schooling fees.

Oasis Haven is automatically billed on a monthly basis so it's hard for me to pull an exact receipt of funds followed by a lump sum payment. Is this sufficient?
