Many students at the Tra Lanh Secondary School are from remote minority ethnic communities 5-8 km from the school with dangerous river crossings in very rugged mountainous terrain. These students currently live 6 days a week at the school in 20 metal shipping containers. This project will support the Build A School Foundation, a San Diego-based 501(c)3, to build a 5-room, 175 square meter dormitory for these students plus additional space for bathrooms and kitchen.
The total project cost is US$24,900 and will be financed by the following support:
Local businesses - $12,400
Local government - $5,500
Encinitas Rotary - $3,500
District 5340 matching grant - $3,500
Groundbreaking is scheduled for Sept 2020, with completion by June 2021.
