The Calexico Rotary Club is located in Imperial County, an underserved border community, with an unemployment rate of close to 30 percent. Calexico is one of the cities in California with high rates of cancer, diabetes, asthma and obesity. In addition to these challenges, Imperial County has limited access to specialized medical care.
One of Calexico Rotary Club's goal is to remove/eliminate barriers and support the health needs of Calexico residents needing specialized medical treatment outside of the Imperial County.
Our goal is to provide a helping hand to underprivileged community members who are seeking recommended medical treatment outside of our county. We want to reduce/eliminate barriers and the stress that comes with the economic impact when having to travel outside of the county for required/recommended medical treatment.
The Calexico Rotarians propose to partner with community-based organizations such as The Cancer Research Center of the Desert and Amigos De Alejandro. These CBOs provide services to children, women and men of Calexico seeking specialized cancer treatment in San Diego, Riverside and other surrounding areas. This collaboration will focus on pooling resources to provide transportation, meal and lodging vouchers.
